SENIOR ENGINEER

Howdy, we're looking for a senior engineer to join us at Tex

My name is Fed, I'm one of the founders and CEO here at the company. Ten months ago we set out to build the heavy equipment market that the next century of mining and building the world will require.

The Problem

The small rocks of our streets and in our buildings were once big rocks. Concrete and asphalt does not pour itself. Rare earth minerals do not magically bubble up to our surface (anymore) and data centers are not a naturally occurring phenomenon. Everything you interact with requires heavy equipment.

And yet, dealing with these assets is painful and sucks. Projects get stalled, contractors go out of business, and we, and everyone else in the supply chain, all suffer for it. It's not a problem that can necessarily be abstracted away, it requires intense technical execution as it does GTM and creativity. This is a massive market and we are creating a disgustingly lucrative opportunity inside of it. If this is good news to you, keep reading!

What Are We Doing About It?

Today, Tex sells a product called Tex Intel. It is the largest graph of these machines ever created and helps dozens of customers across the nation (who pay us 7 figures in ARR to do so) find the right counterparties to do business with.

But Fed, why so abstract? Counterparty?

Consider how much money there is to make on a given excavator. TONS OF MEAT ON THE BONE. The Caterpillar 352:

BTW, going market price for these is in the 600s. That's as much as a McLaren 765LT or a Ferrari 488 or a baller house in San Antonio, TX (where we were founded).

How we do this is by enduring tons of awful pain and being kind of lucky. We leverage financing records and a myriad of other data sources to build this graph. From there, we build the apps and agents necessary to get money in our customer's pockets and ours and maybe yours.

Who Is Behind Tex?

Before Tex, I was COO at Trieve (YCW24) where we built infrastructure for search and AI chat at massive scale. Matthew, my cofounder, was VP of North America for a mining equipment brokerage and at Holt Cat before then. Other team members have scaled orgs to 15M+ in revenues, apps to millions of downloads, played D1 athletics, and even shot holes-in-ones.

Now, we're building more great stuff to truly unlock and create value in our industry like no one has ever seen before. Tablestakes Knowledge

• Build and maintain data ingestion and enrichment pipelines that process large volumes of records, plus the backend services and APIs powering search, classification, and analytics.
• Ship product features across a modern web frontend and own your work end to end, including deployment, cloud infrastructure, containers, and CI/CD.
• Strong general-purpose programming (Python and/or TypeScript), solid SQL/relational databases, and hands-on ETL/data-pipeline experience with search or analytics stores.
• Data-orchestration/workflow tooling, record linkage / fuzzy matching / entity resolution, web scraping / document extraction, and infrastructure-as-code.

• You have launched meaningful products inside small teams or built things from zero to one.
• You want to work across the entire stack, including backend, ML, infrastructure, and AI agents.
• You want to build in person, sitting side by side with a tight-knit team.
• You move fast, you bias toward action, and the pace of an early-stage company energizes you rather than drains you.

Why Are We Hiring for This Specific Role Right Now?

We spent the last stretch on the hard, unglamorous part, which was building the data layer and proving the business works. It is live, it covers most of the country, and it is generating revenue.

The bottleneck is different now. Demand has outrun what we can currently serve, so the question is no longer whether this works. It is how fast we can build on what we have.

You inherit a foundation that already runs in production rather than a blank page. The interesting problems are in what we layer on top of it.
